Among the prizes that were on offer in the Advent Fair Raffle Draw at the 2016 Advent Fair was a ride in a red Ferrari together with breakfast and a hamper of Ferrari goodies. The prize was won by Elmarie Vuren and Lars Lampen was very keen to take it off her hands. Tony Fornali, being the gentleman that he is, gave both Elmarie and Lars the opportunity to experience the Ferrari although Lars received the hamper.
Elmarie would not say what speeds she experienced, but did say that the force of the acceleration pinned her firmly in her seat.
Here are some pictures:

This post shares the journey of making a knitted gnome designed by Frau Hottinger and knitted by Nel Gernaat of the Johannesburg congregation.
These gnomes are made of pure wool. This often limits the colours that are available in South Africa. Once the colours of the body and the hat are selected the various parts are knitted. There are two options for knitting: knit flat panels and sew these together or knit in the round on 5 knitting needles. These have been knitted as flat panels.
Once the panels have been sewn together they are stuffed with (washable) soft toy stuffing. A piece a of flat-bar iron makes up the feet allowing the gnomes to stand upright.
Finally the face is embroidered and hair added.
In a next post some of the history of the Hottinger gmones will be shared.
